The announcement was made through a statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Abubakar Mohammad Nakwada, who noted that the appointment followed recommendations by the Gusau Emirate kingmakers in accordance with tradition and applicable laws.

Alhaji Abdulkadir succeeds his father, the late Emir Ibrahim Bello, who died on July 25, 2025, after serving ten years on the throne. Prior to his appointment, Abdulkadir held the traditional title of Bunun Gusau and is the eldest son of the late monarch.

Governor Lawal congratulated the new Emir, now the 16th to ascend the throne of Gusau, and urged him to preserve the legacy of his forebears, emphasizing his royal lineage as a direct descendant of Malam Sambo Dan Ashafa.

He also called on the new Emir to foster unity, peace, and development within the emirate and across the state.
