The unnamed PDP source told Vanguard that Jonathan has accepted growing calls from influential party figures and national elders urging him to return to power.

“The decision has been made. He’s accepted to run. He wants to offer leadership once again to address the poverty, insecurity, and economic hardship currently ravaging the country,” the source was quoted as saying.

Jonathan, who previously served from 2010 to 2015, is said to be offering himself for a single term, in line with constitutional limitations. Political observers say this promise is helping to win over northern leaders, who see it as a transitional arrangement that could allow power to shift back to the North by 2031.

“He can only serve one term due to constitutional limits, and that’s why northern politicians are backing him. They view it as a bridge toward returning the presidency to the North,” the source added.
