Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, will embark on a month-long leave starting Friday, August 29, 2025
The notification was contained in a letter sent to the State House of Assembly, which was read at Tuesday’s plenary by Speaker Adebo Ogundoyin.

The letter, in line with Section 190(1) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, fulfills the requirement for a governor to formally inform the Assembly before proceeding on leave.
In the letter, Governor Makinde requested leave and officially handed over the duties of his office to Deputy Governor Barrister Bayo Lawal, who will act as Governor during the period.
“I hereby transmit that during the period indicated above, the Deputy Governor, Barrister Bayo Lawal, shall serve as Acting Governor. I shall resume duty upon my return from vacation on Monday, 29th September 2025,” part of the letter read.
The House acknowledged the communication and pledged its support for a smooth transition, emphasizing its commitment to constitutional order and the continuity of governance in the state.
With the formal notification and the Assembly’s affirmation, Barrister Bayo Lawal is expected to assume full responsibilities from August 29 until Governor Makinde resumes on September 29. The House is scheduled to resume plenary on September 16, 2025.
