Shock and outrage gripped Ukraine on Saturday after former parliamentary speaker Andriy Parubiy was shot de..ad in the western city of Lviv
Authorities confirmed the k!lling, which President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned as a “horrific murder.”
Zelensky vowed that investigators would leave no stone unturned in identifying those responsible. He stressed the need for “a thorough investigation” as the nation mourned the loss of one of its most prominent political figures.
Police reported that Parubiy, 54, “d!ed on the spot as a result of his injuries.” Security forces are pursuing the gunman, though the motive for the attack remains unknown.
Parubiy’s career spanned some of Ukraine’s most turbulent political chapters. He served as parliamentary speaker from 2016 to 2019 and was a staunch supporter of both the pro-European Orange Revolution of 2004 and the Maidan Revolution of 2014, which reshaped Ukraine’s political trajectory.
