Samuel Umtiti has announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 31, bringing an end to a career marked by both triumphs and challenges.
The French defender spent seven years at Barcelona, lifting two La Liga titles and three Copa del Rey trophies. He was also part of the France squad that won the 2018 FIFA World Cup during his time in Catalonia.
Injuries, particularly persistent knee problems, frequently sidelined Umtiti, limiting his time on the pitch and ultimately contributing to his decision to retire.
Sharing an emotional farewell on social media, Umtiti wrote: “After an intense career with ups and downs, the time has come to say goodbye… I gave my ALL with passion and regret NOTHING. I want to thank all the clubs, presidents, coaches and players I was able to stand with ❤️
