There's no Religious persecution in Nigeria - Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu has rejected claims that Christians are being persecuted in Nigeria, describing such reports as false and misleading

Speaking in Owerri, Imo State, on Tuesday during the launch of Governor Hope Uzodimma’s book, A Decade of Impactful Progressive Governance in Nigeria, Tinubu said suggestions of religious hostility are false.

“There is no religious persecution in Nigeria, it is a lie from the pit of hell. Today, Nigerians can confidently say that we have well-equipped hospitals capable of treating critical illnesses such as cancer. We are investing in the welfare of our people,” Tinubu said.

He insisted that Nigerians of different faiths live together peacefully and emphasized that insecurity in the country affects everyone, regardless of religion, and should not be misrepresented as targeted persecution.

His remarks come after American talk show host Bill Maher, in a viral clip from his show Real Time with Bill Maher, alleged that up to 500,000 Christians had been killed in Nigeria, describing it as genocide. The video has since been amplified by international influencers, including Radio Genoa, an anti-Islamic personality on X.
