The Nigerian Army has rejected claims circulating online that the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, planned to forcibly recruit Nigerians aged 18 and above into military service
In a statement on Friday in Abuja, Acting Director of Public Relations, Lt.-Col. Appolonia Anele, described the viral post as “malicious fabrication” designed to mislead the public and create fear.

The post alleged that the COAS threatened compulsory enlistment for youths who do not volunteer and claimed that 10,000 soldiers recruited last year had gone missing. Anele clarified that these assertions are entirely false and that the COAS never made such statements in any setting.
She warned that anyone spreading false or inflammatory information would be identified, apprehended, and prosecuted according to the law.
Anele urged Nigerians to ignore the rumour and rely solely on official channels and verified social media accounts for accurate information.
