For Mr Eazi financial success is great, but having the freedom to make music on his own terms is just as important.
The singer believes becoming a US dollar billionaire could happen soon, even though it is not something he is actively working towards.
The conversation took an interesting turn when he was compared to Jay-Z, who has built a successful business empire alongside his music career. Mr Eazi was happy to accept the comparison.
He said:
“You have Africa’s Jay-Z, you know, you could do that.”
“Jay-Z is Jay-Z. I’m Mr. Eazi. Mr. Eazi has Beyonce, I have Temi.”
His business interests came up during the interview, including his stake in a UK ticketing company.
But it was the discussion about his wealth that caught the interviewer’s attention. Asked if he was on his way to becoming Afrobeats’ first billionaire, Mr Eazi wanted to know which currency they were talking about.
When the interviewer mentioned naira and said he had already reached billionaire status, the singer confirmed it with a simple, “Billionaire.”
As for becoming a billionaire in US dollars, he responded:
“US dollars, you know, soon come.”
Still, Mr Eazi made it clear that accumulating more wealth was not his main ambition. When asked if becoming a billionaire was his target.
“I’m not really looking for, that’s not the target,” before adding that it could happen “anytime now.l”, he said.
What matters more to him is being able to release music without feeling restricted by others.
“Freedom very big to me. Freedom musically, freedom to be able to put out music freely”, he added.
