The Plateau State Government has shut down all basic schools across the state due to rising security concerns
Richard Jonah, Public Relations Officer of the Plateau State Universal Basic Education Board (PSUBEB), confirmed the directive on Friday, describing it as a preventive measure. He explained that the government is acting proactively to avoid incidents similar to attacks on schools in other states.

The PSUBEB statement outlined the closures:
Government Junior Model Secondary Schools (GJMSSs) will shut from Saturday, November 22, 2025, while Primary and Day Schools will close from Monday, November 24, 2025. The board emphasized that the measure is temporary and aimed at strengthening security arrangements before resuming school activities.
The board also called on Local Government Education Authorities, school heads, and community leaders to cooperate and remain vigilant.
Residents reported heightened concerns in some areas. Moses Jeremiah of Shendam LGA said students of GSS Shendam were sent home after receiving warnings of a possible attack, though this alleged threat has not been independently verified. Plateau Police Public Relations Officer SP Alfred Alabo said the command is not aware of any threat and would only comment after receiving an official brief.
The closure follows recent violent incidents in neighbouring states, including the abduction of students from a Catholic school in Niger State and a girls’ boarding school attack in Kebbi State, where 25 students were abducted and the vice-principal killed.
Meanwhile, Chief of Army Staff Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu has called for public support for ongoing military operations, urging communities to assist in security efforts during the Nigerian Army’s Civil-Military Cooperation Media Chat in Jos.
