Families of some NYSC members a.bducted in Kogi State are now being asked to pay N20 million for each victim.
The corps members were among passengers travelling to Abuja from Bayelsa after their orientation camp. Their journey was cut short when gunmen intercepted them on the Aloma-Egane road in Ofu Local Government Area of Kogi State.
According to reports, one of the families has confirmed that the k!dnappers have reached out and demanded N20 million, saying;
“One of our daughters who was kidnapped on her way from Bayelsa State to Abuja after completing three weeks orientation camp. The kidnappers are requesting N20 million naira,” the family source said.
The a.bduction had earlier been confirmed by the Kogi State Police Command, which said several passengers were taken, including NYSC members.
Security personnel later carried out a joint operation that resulted in the rescue of 11 people, among them the drivers of the two vehicles caught up in the att.ack. Some victims, however, remain in the hands of the k!dnappers.
The affected families are calling on the Federal Government, the NYSC and security agencies to do more to secure their safe release.
