The National Industrial Court of Nigeria in Abuja has granted an interlocutory injunction requested by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and the FCT Administration, ordering workers under the Joint Union Action Committee to suspend their ongoing strike
The claimants had filed suit against the Chairman of the Joint Union Action Committee, Rifkatu Iortyer, and its Secretary, Abdullahi Umar Saleh, under case number NICN/ABJ/17/2026, seeking a court order to prevent the defendants and their members from engaging in any industrial action, picketing, or lockout.

Delivering his judgment on Tuesday, Justice E.D. Subilim acknowledged that the case qualified as a trade dispute and met the necessary legal requirements but noted that the defendants’ right to strike was not absolute.
He ruled that once a dispute is brought before the National Industrial Court, workers are prohibited from continuing any strike action. Where a strike is already in progress, it must be suspended until the court reaches a final determination.
“An order of interlocutory injunction is hereby granted, restraining the defendants and their representatives from further embarking on any industrial action against the claimants. The order shall remain in force pending the determination of this suit,” Justice Subilim stated.
