The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has taken former Kaduna State governor Nasir el-Rufai into custody for questioning over alleged financial misconduct during his time in office
Sources confirmed that el-Rufai, a prominent member of the African Democratic Congress, honoured an invitation and appeared at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja on Monday.
According to the Cable, hours after interrogation, he was held overnight as investigators continued their probe.
“He is in our custody, and he is going to spend the night there.”

Insiders disclosed that his release will depend on the outcome of further questioning scheduled for Tuesday.
El-Rufai governed Kaduna State from 2015 until 2023. In 2024, the Kaduna State House of Assembly indicted him over allegations of diverting N423 billion in public funds and money laundering. The assembly urged anti-corruption agencies to thoroughly investigate the matter.
The former governor is also expected to appear before the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission for interrogation on Wednesday.
His legal troubles intensified last week when security personnel attempted to arrest him at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja upon his return from Cairo, Egypt.
El-Rufai later alleged that the ICPC acted on instructions from the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, directing the Department of State Services to detain him upon arrival.
