Ramadan: Kano temporarily bans entertainment activities

The Kano State Censorship Board has ordered a temporary shutdown of entertainment activities across the state as Muslims prepare for the holy month of Ramadan

In a statement released on Tuesday by the Board’s Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Sani Sulaiman, all entertainment centres — including event venues commonly referred to as gala houses — have been directed to cease operations. DJs have also been instructed to suspend activities throughout the fasting period.

The directive will take effect from 10:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, and will remain in place until the conclusion of Ramadan.

According to the Board, the measure is intended to create a calm and respectful environment that allows residents to observe the fast and fulfill their religious duties without distractions.

Authorities added that a date for the reopening of affected centres, especially ahead of Eid celebrations, will be communicated in due course.

The Board urged operators and other stakeholders to strictly comply with the order, stressing that the move aligns with its statutory responsibility to regulate entertainment activities in the state. It also expressed prayers for a peaceful, healthy, and spiritually rewarding Ramadan for all residents.
