Neo Akpofure threatens legal action over ra.pe allegations

BBNaija star, Neo Akpofure has threatened legal action against a woman who accused him of ra.pe on social media

The controversy began after an X user, operating under the handle “the violently wicked (@notralia),” alleged in a February 17, 2026 post that Neo ra.ped her during their time as students at the University of Calabar (UNICAL).

In the post, she wrote:

“@NeoAkpofure is also a ra.pist. he ra.ped me in UNICAL, he should come out and deny it. We were casual se.x buddies with the clause that he wasn’t in a relationship. I found out he was and went to his apartment to confront him. So he ra.ped me.

Neo come and say you didn’t do it.”

In response, Neo’s legal representatives issued a formal letter titled “Demand for Retraction and Public Apology for the Defamatory Publication Against Our Client, Mr. Neo Akpofure.”

The letter described the allegation as false, malicious, and defamatory, stating that the accuser herself admitted they had been involved in a consensual casual sexual relationship. The lawyers argued that branding Neo a rapist constitutes a grave criminal accusation that has caused serious reputational harm, emotional distress, and potential professional damage.

They further stated that the post, published on a global platform, amounts to actionable libel under Nigerian law and could attract civil liability and possible criminal consequences.

Neo’s legal team demanded that within 48 hours, the accuser must:

1. Delete the defamatory post and any related content shared on other platforms.
2. Issue a clear and unequivocal public retraction stating that the allegations are false.
3. Publish a public apology on her X profile acknowledging that the statement was untrue and injurious.
4. Provide a written undertaking not to make further defamatory statements about Neo.

   

    

The letter warned that failure to comply within the stipulated timeframe would result in immediate legal action, including a civil suit for defamation and other remedies available under Nigerian law.

The situation has since sparked widespread reactions online, with debates intensifying over the allegation and the threatened legal action.
