A fiery warning has come from the pulpit as Catholics are cautioned against joining the viral Hallelujah Challenge during Lent.
A priest has slammed the social media trend, saying it undermines the sacred rituals of the faith.
“As a Catholic following the “Hallelujah Challenge” during Lent is a big caricature of your baptism, Confirmation, all the Holy communion, masses and Rosaries you have ever done,” he said.
“It is an insult to your faith and a testament of your faithlessness.”
The priest stressed that while the challenge itself isn’t inherently wrong, participating during the holy season is inappropriate.
“However, if you are Catholic, you shouldn’t be caught with ashes in the morning and at night time Halleluia is on your lips.
Catholics fast from HALLELUIA during Lent,” he explained.
Quoting Blessed Michael Iwene Tansi, he urged believers to embrace their faith fully: “If you want be a Catholic be a full-time Catholic.”
The warning, signed PREACHING-FRIAR@2026, is sparking conversations among young Catholics about balancing social media trends with religious devotion.
