Israel’s Defence Minister, Israel Katz, has confirmed that the country has launched fresh military strikes against Iran
In a statement issued on Saturday, February 28, Katz said the operation was initiated to neutralise what he described as looming threats from Tehran.
Iranian state media, however, reported multiple explosions across different districts of Tehran, the nation’s capital, as tensions escalated.
Photos and videos making rounds online captured heavy plumes of smoke rising above parts of the city shortly after the blasts were heard.
Israeli authorities also moved swiftly to shut down the country’s airspace following the development.
As of the time of filing this report, specific details regarding the scale of the attack or possible casualties have not been disclosed.
The latest action comes months after Israel carried out a similar strike against Iran in June, further heightening hostilities between the two countries.
