President Bola Tinubu has ordered the rapid deployment of 100,000 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) conversion kits within the next two to three weeks to ease the burden of rising petrol and diesel prices on Nigerians
The directive was announced by Ismaeel Ahmed, Executive Chairman of the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas (Pi-CNG), following a meeting with the President at the State House, Abuja.

Ahmed explained that the move was prompted by the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, which has driven up global petroleum prices and increased transportation costs across the country.
“The President wanted to know what we are doing at Pi-CNG and EV to scale up the availability of gas so that people would have lower transportation costs,” Ahmed said.
He revealed that Tinubu issued a direct mandate for the mass deployment of conversion kits to make natural gas a viable alternative to petrol and diesel.
“So the President has given a direct mandate that we should immediately deploy about 100,000 kits. We are working with multiple stakeholders to ensure rapid market entry, enabling vehicles and tricycles to switch to gas,” Ahmed said.
The Pi-CNG chairman stated that the rollout would begin within two to three weeks, with conversion centres expected to be “bustling with activities.” He added that the initiative also includes plans to introduce vehicles and tricycles equipped with bi-fuel CNG and electric mobility options.
President Tinubu further directed Pi-CNG to accelerate the development of gas refilling stations and electric vehicle charging points nationwide, with special focus on the Northern corridor.
