Suspected terrorists believed to be members of Boko Haram launched an overnight attack on a military outpost at Ajilari, a community on the outskirts of Maiduguri
The assault reportedly occurred around 12:30 a.m., with sources saying the attackers infiltrated the area and opened fire on security positions. At the same time, another clash was reported in Baga, where the insurgents were said to have engaged troops stationed at the military base.

Security forces quickly mobilised to repel the attackers. A combined response from the Nigerian military, police, Civilian Joint Task Force and the Nigerian Air Force forced the assailants to retreat after a fierce exchange.
The spokesperson for the Borno State Police Command, Nahum Kenneth Daso, confirmed the incident and assured residents that security agencies had taken control of the situation.
“The suspected terrorists attacked Ajilari Cross. Call me later for a details, please.”
Residents described a tense atmosphere during the attack, with heavy gunfire and explosions echoing through nearby communities while military helicopters patrolled the sky.
Many people who had stepped out for night prayers gathered in small groups discussing the incident as the situation gradually calmed.
“We were very scared, the whole air was taken over by gunshots and explosions. But Alhamdullillah, the situation is calm and prayers have began,” a resident of Gomari, Bashir Yusuf, said.
The attack comes amid renewed insurgent activity targeting military formations in the region.
