Popular skit-maker Maraji shared a heartfelt account of sexual vi%lence and insecurity in Nigeria, breaking down in tears as she recounted past experiences and systemic failures.

She said;

“I came across a video that really broke me. A lady recounted that 10 years ago, while walking with her friend in Delta State, she was r%ped. Shockingly, her friend told her that this was a ‘normal thing’ in Delta State.”

Maraji continued; “I also saw some clips yesterday about the Ozoro r%pe festival in Delta, and it hurt me deeply because I know that real justice will likely never prevail there.

As much as I know that jungle justice is terrible, the lawlessness in Nigeria makes it almost impossible for r%pists and other criminals to face the true justice they deserve.”

Reflecting on her own experiences, she added, “I remembered when I was robbed. I was shaking as I tried to call the police.

The way people at the scene looked at me and the driver as if to say, ‘Why call the police instead of just going home?’ showed me how sick the system is in this country. Nigeria is always in the news for the wrong reasons.”

She concluded by sharing her relief after moving to Ghana with her husband, saying;

“I also remember when my husband and I were dating, I told him that I wanted us to move to Ghana. Ever since we relocated, the difference has been palpable.

There is never the kind of chaos or insecurity we experienced in Nigeria. Life here in Ghana has been peaceful and serene, without constant bad news.”
