Nollywood actor Wale Okunnu has taken aim at petroleum marketers, blaming them for the recent surge in petrol prices.

Speaking in a video shared on social media, Okunnu questioned why petrol prices in Nigeria keep climbing, while in many other parts of the world, prices haven’t jumped as drastically.

He wondered whether the government should really be held responsible for the increases.

“As of Saturday, petrol was N1,240 per litre, and by Sunday, March 22, it had risen to N1,340. So tell me, is it the government that hiked the price within hours, or are we doing this to ourselves?” Okunnu asked.

He also noted that Nigeria’s own oil resources, noting the irony of paying such high prices for local fuel.

“We know there’s conflict in Israel and Iran, but don’t we produce our own crude oil? Why is petrol in Nigeria so expensive when other countries with petrol don’t face such high costs? We are the ones punishing ourselves,” he said.
