At least six people sustained injuries after a three-storey building still under construction suddenly gave way in Jikwoyi, an area within the Abuja Municipal Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory
The Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Department (FEMD) disclosed that a total of 17 labourers were working on the top floor at the time of the incident. While nine of them escaped without any harm, others were not as fortunate.

In a statement, the agency’s Head of Public Affairs, Nkechi Isa, said emergency responders moved swiftly to the scene to ensure no victims remained trapped beneath the debris.
“The FEMD search and rescue team said 17 workers were on the upper floor of the building when it collapsed, injuring five workers and trapping a lone male who was at the ground level of the building,” she noted in the statement.
She further revealed that those injured, including the man rescued from the rubble, were rushed to the Sisters of Nativity Hospital in Jikwoyi, where they are currently receiving treatment and said to be responding well.
