In an industry often seen as glamorous and full of quick success stories, actress Eve Esin is opening up about a much tougher reality behind the scenes.
She shared how her journey into Nollywood started with passion and big dreams, but quickly became challenging when she realized that opportunities sometimes came with uncomfortable expectations.
“As a young girl, I came into Nollywood with passion and big dreams. But instead of opportunities, I kept hearing the same thing, ‘if you want to blow, you must follow man.’
I said no. Not because it was easy… but because I knew the kind of woman I wanted to be.”
Her decision to stand her ground didn’t come without
consequences. According to her, roles began to disappear, and she was labeled in ways that didn’t reflect who she truly was.
“Doors started closing. Roles disappeared. They tagged me ‘difficult’, ‘proud’, even ‘ungrateful’ just because I refused to compromise myself.
There were moments I almost gave up. Moments I questioned if standing my ground was worth it.”
Despite the pressure and moments of doubt, Esin said she held on to one belief that true success should never come at the cost of peace or self-respect. She continued to push forward, trusting her journey.
“But deep down, I knew one thing, anything built on compromise will never give you peace.
So I kept pushing. Quietly. Patiently. Consistently.
And today? I’m still here. Still acting. Still standing… on my own terms.
To every young actor and actress out there feeling pressured, you don’t have to trade your dignity for a spotlight.
Your talent is enough. Your time will come. Just don’t lose yourself trying to get there.”
