The Airline Operators of Nigeria has put its planned nationwide flight shutdown on hold following last-minute intervention by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo
The decision came after an emergency meeting of the association’s Executive Council and Board of Trustees, where members reviewed the Minister’s appeal for calm and dialogue. Keyamo had urged airline operators to suspend the action and participate in a stakeholders’ meeting aimed at addressing the crisis.

The dispute is largely driven by the soaring cost of aviation fuel, commonly known as Jet A1. The operators had earlier raised concerns over what they described as exploitative pricing by fuel marketers, noting that the price had surged by more than 300 percent—from ₦900 to about ₦3,100 per litre—making operations increasingly unsustainable.
Although the AON had initially scheduled a shutdown for Monday, April 20, 2026, the group has now stepped back, at least for the time being. According to a communiqué issued after the meeting, the suspension is intended to create room for negotiations and a possible resolution.
“The planned shutdown action scheduled for Monday, April 20, 2026, is hereby called off, albeit temporarily, pending the outcome of the meeting called by the Honourable Minister.”
