According to a statement by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, the decision is in line with the Nigeria Police Academy (Establishment) Act, 2021, which provides for the expansion of the academy’s main campus in Wudil, Kano, into multiple campuses across the country.

Funding for the new Ogun State campus will be sourced from the 2026 allocation of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund and will cover key facilities including academic buildings, student hostels, and training equipment.

The location of the new campus in Erinja was approved following consultations involving the Minister of Police Affairs, the Minister of Education Dr. Tunji Alausa, senior officials of the Federal Ministry of Education, the Inspector-General of Police, and the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission.
