Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has described himself as a “freelance politician,” saying he is no longer firmly aligned with any political party
He made the statement on Thursday while receiving African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain Peter Obi and stakeholders from the South-East at the Government House in Bauchi.
According to him, the meeting was centered on national unity and cooperation rather than partisan politics.

“Neither the PDP nor the ADC is standing alone. I consider myself a freelance politician now, and even his party is facing uncertainty. We are all awaiting judicial clarity,” he said.
He added that the engagement reflected ongoing political conversations aimed at exploring possible collaboration ahead of future elections.
“Clearly, we belong to the opposition, which is why this remains a political engagement. However, we will not reveal all the details of our discussions,” he added.
Governor Mohammed further explained that consultations among political stakeholders were still ongoing, stressing that such discussions are part of preparations for future political realignments.
Describing Obi’s visit as significant, he said it highlighted efforts to promote unity and bridge political and regional divides.
“He is advocating unity, bridge-building, and a better future for Nigeria. These are values we share as a government and as a people, and we are truly honoured by his visit,” he said.
