Three people have been arrested for spreading false news about UBA Group chairman, Tony Elumelu, divorcing wife, Awele
The bank, through its Group Head of Brand, Marketing and Corporate Communication, Alero Ladipo, dismissed the report as completely false, describing it as defamatory and deliberately crafted to mislead the public and tarnish Elumelu’s image.
According to the statement, the issue has been reported to security agencies, who have launched an investigation into how the claim originated.
UBA confirmed that three suspects linked to the misinformation have already been arrested.
They were identified as Kingsley Akunemeihe (also known as @Directorkem), Chigozie Success Ihebom, and John Surpruchi Nwanorue (also known as @problemchimky).
The bank added that investigations are still ongoing and could lead to more arrests and possible prosecution of others involved in the false news.
