Islamic clerics in Mani and Bindawa Local Government Areas of Katsina State have rejected the candidacy of Jamilu Abdu-Mani for the 2027 House of Representatives election, urging residents not to support her

Abdu-Mani, who currently serves as Special Adviser to the governor on girl-child education and child development, emerged as the consensus candidate for the Mani/Bindawa Federal Constituency.

Her emergence followed a stakeholders’ meeting where the sitting lawmaker, Ahmad Yusuf, and other aspirants were sidelined.

Earlier in the process, Ahmad Saleh had reportedly been chosen as the consensus candidate. However, after objections from other contenders, party stakeholders revisited the selection process, which eventually produced Abdu-Mani as the flagbearer.

The All Progressives Congress in the state had opted to adopt consensus arrangements in picking candidates for the 2027 general elections. A high-level committee led by former governor Aminu Masari was set up to oversee the exercise, with support from senatorial coordinators including Ibrahim Ida, Ibrahim Jukamshi, and Ahmad Dangiwa.

Despite the party’s decision, two clerics publicly rejected Abdu-Mani’s candidacy. Speaking during a teaching session at a mosque in Katsina, a cleric, Abu Abdullahi, criticized the development, arguing that it contradicts religious teachings on leadership.
