Minister of Power Joseph Tegbe has dismissed reports claiming he pledged to fix Nigeria’s national electricity grid within three months, describing the story as a misrepresentation of his comments during his Senate screening

In a statement shared on X on Thursday by his spokesperson Adeola Adelabu, the minister clarified that no such timeline was given for resolving the country’s power challenges.

“Our attention has been drawn to inaccurate media reports alleging that the Honourable Minister-designate, Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe, promised to fix Nigeria’s power grid within three months. This claim is a clear misrepresentation of his remarks,” the statement said.

The clarification noted that during his screening on May 6, Tegbe told lawmakers that concrete timelines for reforms in the power sector were still under review and would depend on technical evaluations and stakeholder consultations.

According to the statement, he explained that initial efforts to stabilise the national grid would begin within his first 100 days in office, while broader reforms covering gas supply, metering, and sector operations would likely take up to a year.

“My promise to this chamber and to Nigeria is that Nigerians will see visible improvement in the sector,” he was quoted as saying.

Tegbe also outlined plans to improve electricity supply by stabilising the grid, upgrading infrastructure, strengthening commercial systems, and improving accountability across the sector.
