Minister of Power, Olasunkanmi Tegbe, has promised Nigerians that the recurring national grid collapse and unstable electricity supply will be tackled within a short timeframe, insisting that visible progress will be achieved in just three months
Tegbe made the bold commitment on Wednesday during his screening before the Senate in Abuja, where he was later confirmed as Minister of Power after being questioned extensively on the crisis rocking the electricity sector.

Addressing lawmakers, he outlined an urgent reform plan aimed at stabilising the national grid, improving transmission performance and reducing the frequent system failures that have long plagued the country’s power supply.
He told the Senate that his administration would operate on a strict results-based timeline, stressing that the first 100 days in office would be critical in restoring stability to the grid and setting the foundation for broader reforms.
“If there are no results in three months, there will be none in six,” he said, adding that Nigerians should be able to track progress through a proposed public performance dashboard.
Lawmakers, however, pressed him on whether such a timeline was realistic, given the long-standing structural and technical challenges in the sector, including weak transmission infrastructure, vandalism and gas supply constraints.
Despite the concerns raised, Tegbe maintained that the problems were not beyond repair, describing the frequent grid collapses as a symptom of deeper systemic failures that must be urgently addressed.
He assured the Senate that immediate steps would be taken to strengthen coordination in the sector, enforce technical standards and stabilise electricity delivery across the country within the shortest possible time.
