President Donald J. Trump on Friday made it known that he would not be attending his son Donald Trump Jr.’s wedding, saying official responsibilities required him to remain in Washington, D.C., at the White House.
In a statement shared that afternoon, he explained that his obligations to government, alongside his commitment to the country, prevented him from traveling for the occasion. He also conveyed his well-wishes to the couple.
He said on Friday afternoon:
“While I very much wanted to be with my son, Don Jr., and the newest member of the Trump Family, his soon to be wife, Bettina, circumstances pertaining to Government, and my love for the United States of America, do not allow me to do so. I feel it is important for me to remain in Washington, D.C., at the White House during this important period of time. Congratulations to Don and Bettina!President DONALD J. TRUMP”.
The message, released Friday, framed his absence around duties in office while still acknowledging the family milestone and extending congratulations to the couple.
