The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has named Mustafa Sule-Lamido, son of former Jigawa State governor Sule Lamido, as its candidate for the 2027 governorship election in the state
Announcing the outcome of the primary election held in Dutse on Sunday, the Returning Officer, Isa Ahmed, confirmed Sule-Lamido as the party’s sole candidate, stating that the process followed the PDP constitution and laid-down guidelines.
Sule-Lamido, who also flew the party’s flag in the 2023 governorship election, appreciated the party leadership for ensuring a peaceful primary across the state and congratulated other PDP candidates.

He promised to strengthen unity within the party and outlined economic development, youth empowerment, healthcare, education, institutional reforms and social revival as key areas his administration would focus on if elected.
He accused the current leadership in the state of failing the people, citing hardship, poor governance and insensitive leadership as major challenges confronting Jigawa.
“This moment is not new to me. In 2023, you entrusted me with this same irresponsibility and together we ran a campaign rooted in unity, hope, reform and promise of a better Jigawa.
“Though we did not secure victory then, we earned the confidence of hundreds of thousands of our people and laid a strong foundation. We are back in the race today because the problems and challenges bedeviling our dear state are still with us,” he said.

“We are not here to lament. We are here to fix the problems,” he added.
Sule-Lamido also expressed concern over the falling standard of education in the state, saying the government had failed to meet the expectations of residents.
He pledged to build a more accountable government where resources would be managed properly and opportunities made available to all citizens.
He urged PDP members to remain united and mobilise support ahead of the 2027 elections.
“We also intend to build a state where opportunities are accessible to every citizen,” he said.
“To the people of Jigawa, I hear you, I see you and I feel your pains; give me the opportunity to serve you,” Sule-Lamido stated.
