The Hausa film industry is mourning the loss of veteran Kannywood actress Wasila Isma’il, who d!ed at the age of 46 after suffering from a prolonged illness.
News of her de.ath was made public by her former husband, Al-Amin Chiroma, in a post shared on social media on Sunday, May 24, 2026.
“Innalillahi Wainna Ilaihirrajiun. Wasila Isma’il is dead. She died at the Federation of Muslim Women Associations of Nigeria Hospital, Kaduna,” he announced.
He further revealed that the actress had been battling health challenges for a long time before her passing.
Wasila leaves behind her children and a legacy in the Kannywood movie industry, where she earned admiration for her performances in several Hausa-language films.
She made her debut in acting in 1998 with the movie Jinin Masoya before rising to prominence a year later after featuring in the film Wasila, which brought her widespread fame.
