Kevin Hart has spoken out in support of comedian Tony Hinchcliffe after criticism over a joke he made during Hart’s roast event.
Tony Hinchcliffe, an American stand-up comic known for his sharp and often provocative style, came under fire after making a joke about George Floyd, as well as remarks involving lynching and a comment about the late husband of comedian Sheryl Underwood.
The comments were widely condemned by viewers, other entertainers, and members of Floyd’s family, who described them as offensive and racist.
During an interview on “The Breakfast Club,” Kevin Hart, an American comedian and film star, said he does not see Tony Hinchcliffe as a racist.
He explained that roast comedy is meant to push boundaries and that jokes in that setting are often meant to be extreme. Hart added that while he would not have made the same joke himself, he understands why Hinchcliffe used that kind of material in a roast environment.
Hart also responded to criticism directed at him for supporting Tony. He shared that he spoke with Stephen Jackson, a former NBA player and close friend of George Floyd, after the event to discuss the situation, but he did not reveal what was said.
Despite Hart’s comments, reactions to the roast continue to spread widely across the internet and entertainment circles.
