Shock and sadness have followed news of the death of former Southampton F.C. player Victor Udoh, who was found dead in Abuja at the age of 21.
Reports said the circumstances surrounding his death are being treated as suspicious, though officials have not confirmed the exact cause.
Udoh joined Southampton in February 2025 on a long-term deal but left the English club later that year after both parties agreed to part ways. He moved to Czech side SK Dynamo České Budějovice in search of more playing time.
Before his move to England, Udoh started his European football journey with Royal Antwerp F.C. after leaving Abuja-based academy Hypebuzz. He impressed with Antwerp’s reserve side, scoring 12 goals in 21 matches, before earning promotion to the senior team where he made 28 appearances.
Southampton paid tribute to the young forward in a statement, saying:
“We are devastated by the tragic passing of former player Victor Udoh at the age of 21. The thoughts of everyone at #SaintsFC go out to Victor’s loved ones at this extremely difficult time.”
His death has left many football fans and former clubs mourning a young player whose career showed great promise.
Authorities are yet to release more details about the incident.
