A 100-level Cybersecurity student of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO) has died in custody of the Man O’ War group over accusations of stealing ₦13,000
Reports indicate that the student was accused of the alleged theft and subsequently taken into custody by the cadets. He was allegedly subjected to several hours of disciplinary punishment during the incident.
He was later said to have become unresponsive and was confirmed dead, a development that has sparked anger among students and raised fresh concerns about the conduct of disciplinary and security groups operating on campus.
The incident has since triggered widespread calls for a thorough investigation, with many demanding accountability and a review of how such groups operate within tertiary institutions.
University authorities are yet to issue an official detailed statement as investigations are expected to determine the exact cause of death and those responsible.
