Governor Douye Diri has ordered a major shake-up at Bayelsa United following their relegation from the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), dissolving the club’s board and management and terminating the contracts of all players
The decision comes in the wake of the Yenagoa-based side’s poor campaign, which ended in relegation despite significant financial support from the state government during the season.

Officials said the move was taken to enforce accountability and address the shortcomings that led to the club’s disappointing performance.
Governor Diri directed that the dissolution takes immediate effect, as preparations begin for a full restructuring of the club ahead of its participation in the Nigeria National League (NNL) next season.
The state government is expected to appoint a new management team in the coming days, with plans already underway to rebuild the squad and position Bayelsa United for an immediate return to top-flight football.
