Oyo Govt imposes 16-hour curfew in 10 LGAs

The Oyo State Government has imposed a 16-hour curfew in 10 local government areas of the state over security concerns around the Old Oyo National Park

Governor Seyi Makinde approved the restriction, which takes effect from Wednesday, June 24, 2026, and will run daily from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. for an initial period of 48 hours.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Musibau Babatunde.

Professor Babatunde explained that the measure was introduced to address security challenges in communities surrounding the Old Oyo National Park.

“Governor Seyi Makinde has approved the declaration of a 16-hour curfew in 10 local government areas of the state,” the statement read.

“The curfew takes effect from Wednesday, June 24, 2026, and will run between 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. for 48 hours in the first instance.”

“The curfew affects local government areas bordering the Old Oyo National Park,”  it added. .

The affected councils are Oriire, Orelope, Irepo, Saki West, Saki East, Atisbo, Itesiwaju, Iseyin, Olorunsogo and Atiba.

Residents of the affected areas were urged to comply fully with the directive and cooperate with security agencies enforcing the curfew.
