The Kano State Hisbah Board has said its mass wedding programme is not restricted to Muslims, revealing that Christians who meet the requirements are also eligible to take part
Deputy Commander of the board, Mujahideen Aminuddeen, made the clarification during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kano on Wednesday, where he explained that the initiative is open to all qualified participants regardless of their faith.

He disclosed that three Christian couples were among those who benefited from the last edition of the programme, held in October 2023.
Although preparations are underway for the next exercise, Aminuddeen said it is too early to confirm whether any Christian couples have registered for this year’s event.
He explained that the programme, known as “Auren Gata,” meaning “marriage for the privileged,” caters to widows, widowers, divorcees, bachelors and spinsters.
According to him, the initiative is designed to promote stable families, encourage marriage and address social challenges linked to delayed weddings caused by financial difficulties.
Aminuddeen added that the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf is giving priority to orphans and families who cannot afford marriage expenses, stressing that all beneficiaries undergo a screening and verification process before being selected.
