The Federal Government has disclosed plans to replace the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) traditional khaki uniform with attire made from locally produced Adire fabric as part of efforts to promote indigenous industries.
Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, announced the plan on Thursday during an appearance on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief.

He explained that the initiative is aimed at supporting local manufacturers and ensuring government spending contributes directly to the growth of Nigeria’s economy.
According to the minister, Adire is already produced in several parts of the country, making it a suitable alternative for the NYSC uniform.
“It’s Adire. So, Adire is being produced in Nigeria. We have them in Ogun, we have them in Kwara, we have textile industry. Let’s put our money back into the country,” he said.
Olawande noted that the policy is expected to stimulate the local textile industry and create more opportunities for Nigerian producers and artisans.
He also revealed that the government is reviewing the NYSC deployment process to ensure corps members are posted according to their academic qualifications and professional skills.
