Monye questions Adire NYSC uniform proposal

Media personality Morris Monye has questioned the idea of introducing Adire and Ankara as a uniform for all members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), arguing that such a move does not reflect Nigeria’s cultural diversity.

Sharing his thoughts on the proposal, Monye said making fabrics associated with one region the standard attire for corps members nationwide would not be appropriate, considering the country’s different ethnic and cultural identities.

“Adire and Ankara can’t be the uniform for all NYSC members across the country. We are all not from the SW region.”

He also urged the Federal Government to shift its attention from changes he described as largely symbolic and instead focus on addressing the challenges facing the NYSC scheme.

According to him, strengthening entrepreneurship training and equipping corps members with practical skills would have a more lasting impact than introducing new uniforms or ceremonial adjustments.

“Rather than focusing on cosmetic changes like uniforms or ceremonies, we should be addressing the real issues affecting the scheme and investing in practical, long-term entrepreneurship education.

The FG should rethink this”, he stated.
