Growing older is something everyone experiences, but for many women, it can come with a sense of anxiety that has little to do with age itself and more to do with how society views it. That was the message Kafayat Shafau-Ameh, popularly known as Kaffy, Kaffy recently shared.
According to the dancer and fitness coach, she was prompted to share her thoughts after coming across a woman celebrating her birthday who didn’t seem excited about the occasion. Instead, the woman appeared bothered by the fact that she was getting older, something Kaffy felt many women quietly struggle with.
Reflecting on it, she questioned why aging, which is a natural part of life for everyone, is often treated as something women should fear or feel ashamed of.
She wrote:
“Everyone will grow old everyone will leave this world but the quality of life we live begins with how we see ourselves from within.
Let’s embrace everyday every moment as the gift that it is because this natural phenomenon is not gender based so it is crazy why one gender feels or is made to feel inferior for aging?

For Kaffy, the issue isn’t about pretending aging doesn’t happen. It’s about changing the way people respond to it. She believes growing older should be seen as a privilege rather than a burden, and that self-worth shouldn’t be tied to youth or the number of candles on a birthday cake.
She also pointed out that aging isn’t selective. It happens to everyone, regardless of gender, making it difficult to understand why women, in particular, are often made to feel less confident as the years go by.
