American humanitarian Alex Barbir has criticised the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) and its General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, over an alleged $265,000 donation to the Nigerian Federal Government.
Barbir questioned why the church would use its funds to support the government instead of directing the money towards helping Christians and communities affected by violence across the country.
In a post he shared, he said:
“The RCCG pastor literally gave $265,000 as a donation to the Federal Government. Is that the role of the church? To fund the operations of the government?
“To take tithes from people who are frying Akara on the street, people living in extreme poverty, and then take that money to give to the government?
“The same government that isn’t even protecting the Christians across Nigeria. Their villages have been burned, people have been killed, and families have been left without homes.
“You could have built 600 homes for the persecuted. I ask you, RCCG, how many villages have you helped rebuild in Nigeria? Zero. But instead, you chose to give the money to the Federal Government.
“And then you go and take the hard-earned money of your fellow workers in Christ, people who are slaving to bring money to your table, to your church, and you then give that money to the government.
“It’s not a surprise that it’s RCCG that does this. The same RCCG that lobbies and stands with the government as they allow their people to be killed.
“The church is supposed to be the light. The church is supposed to stand with the forsaken, the persecuted and afflicted.
“Instead, you’re taking money from the very people who need help and giving it to the government. It’s shameful.”
