The Senior Special Assistant on Media to the Delta State Governor, Ossai Ovie Success, has spoken about the de.ath of 20-year-old nursing student, Favour Agbro, who reportedly took her own life after alleging she was ra.ped by an Asaba-based content creator.
Reacting to the incident, Ossai posted by saying the young woman’s parents should have acted more quickly after she told them about the alleged assa.ult.
According to him, getting her immediate medical care, emotional support and legal help should have been the priority.
He said:
“As a mother, she should have asked her to go to the nearest police station and seek legal support, report to a rape NGO, instead of sending her to meet the man to warn him.”
Ossai also appealed to the public not to place the blame on victims of se.xual assa.ult, stressing that what they need first is care and support while efforts are made to ensure justice is served.
He said:
“In a situation like this, you don’t blame the victim first, you do everything possible to help her get treatment as justice. As parents and guardians, our first responsibility is to protect our children.”
He further stressed that survivors of se.xual ass.ault often need urgent medical attention, counselling and emotional support, adding that keeping silent or blaming victims can deepen their trauma.
Ossai also revealed that he had contacted the father of the content creator, popularly known as Odogwu Asaba, asking him to cooperate with authorities and ensure his son faces the law if the allegations against him are established.
He added:
“No life should be cut short in such a manner, and there can be no justification for any form of se.xual vi0lence.”
