According to Shatta Wale, there was a time when he and Burna Boy shared a genuine friendship.
Speaking during a recent appearance on The Honest Bunch Podcast, he recalled that before one of Burna Boy’s trips to Ghana, the Nigerian singer personally called him and asked him to pick him up from the airport, something he said had never happened with any other Nigerian artist.
Once Burna Boy arrived, Shatta Wale said he made sure his friend lacked nothing throughout his stay. He explained that he welcomed him warmly, arranged a place for him to stay, provided cars for his movement and made sure he was comfortable from start to finish.
“I was treating Burna Boy in Ghana like a king. I was showing him the roads of Ghana..I gave him a house, gave him cars. He wasn’t wasting money in Ghana,” he said.
Shatta Wale believes everything changed after some people who had fallen out with his team allegedly began spreading false stories about him. According to him, they contacted people close to him in an attempt to damage his relationships, including the one he had with Burna Boy.
“They told Burna Boy that I was f^cking his girl he brought to Ghana. He just bought it,” he said.
He said he did not understand why Burna Boy suddenly stopped answering his calls and messages, especially after the singer’s career reached new heights. Hoping to find out what was going on, he even reached out to Burna Boy’s mother, whom he described as someone he has always respected and considered family.
Shatta Wale said she only gave him reasons why Burna Boy could not speak with him, and it was much later that he realised the rumours may have been the reason for the silence.
“I didn’t know they’ve told them, and he’s decided not to talk to me,” he said. “I just thank God that God has put Burna somewhere, but it hurts me that he didn’t listen to me to explain to him that this was what the boys were doing”, he stated.
Despite how things turned out, Shatta Wale said the situation still hurts because he never got the opportunity to clear his name before their friendship fell apart.
