Singer Peter Okoye has addressed backlash that followed his controversial “Who Naija language help?” remark, while also firing back at his twin brother, Paul Okoye, over what he described as repeated attempts to undermine him

It all began after Peter shared that his children now speak French fluently. While some congratulated him, others questioned why they were not equally fluent in a Nigerian language, prompting his now-viral response.

Addressing the backlash, Peter admitted that his words offended many people and apologised for how they were received.

He wrote:

“If my response to ‘Who Naija language help?’ upset some people, I apologize and take full responsibility for my words. That doesn’t mean I hate Nigerian languages or our culture.”

He explained that the debate started from what he believed was an innocent post about his children speaking French and his thoughts of buying a house in Paris, insisting he never singled out the Igbo language or culture.

Peter also responded to his brother Paul’s recent cryptic post celebrating his Igbo heritage, accusing him of using the controversy to attack him.

“But again, bro, you’re at it again, using this moment as another opportunity to pull me down. Just like I wrote in my open letter two years ago, doing everything possible to make people hate me will never work.”

He added that although he accepted responsibility for his statement, he would no longer ignore what he described as repeated jabs from his twin brother.

“At this point, I think it’s only fair I start giving the same energy I receive. No more Mr. Nice Guy.

“It’s aura for aura, Egusi for Egusi, Oha for Oha.”
