First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has urged Nigerian mothers, particularly lactating mothers, to adopt healthy lifestyles
She urged them to consume nutritious foods, describing breastfeeding as the foundation for a child’s healthy growth and lifelong development.
In a message marking the 2026 World Breastfeeding Week, observed from August 1 to 7, Senator Tinubu joined the global community in commemorating the annual campaign and endorsed this year’s theme, “Breastfeeding for a Sustainable Start in Life: Strengthen What Works.”
The First Lady said breastfeeding remains one of the most important investments families and nations can make in securing the health and future of children.
“As we commemorate World Breastfeeding Week 2026, I join the global community in support of this year’s theme: ‘Breastfeeding for a Sustainable Start in Life: Strengthen What Works’”, she said.
She noted that breastfeeding provides the foundation for a child’s healthy growth and lifelong development, stressing that it contributes significantly to the well-being of families and national development.
The First Lady also encouraged mothers, especially nursing mothers, to maintain healthy lifestyles and eat nutritious foods to safeguard their own health and that of their babies.
“Breastfeeding lays the foundation for a child’s healthy growth and lifelong development, making it a vital investment in families and a nation. I encourage mothers, especially lactating mothers, to embrace healthy lifestyles and eat nutritious foods for their well-being and that of their children”, she stated.
