Brazilian forward Neymar Jr has responded to speculation that he could still return to international football after his father suggested the door remained open despite his recent retirement from the national team
The 34-year-old ended his Brazil career last month after returning to the Selecao for the 2026 FIFA World Cup following almost three years away from international football.
During the tournament, Neymar featured as a substitute in Brazil’s 3-0 group-stage victory over Scotland before playing in the second half of the team’s 2-1 Round of 16 defeat to Norway, a result that ended Brazil’s campaign. He scored a late penalty in the loss after Norway had established a two-goal lead.
Following the elimination, Neymar announced that he was retiring from international football.
However, his father later hinted that the decision might not be final, saying:
“I can’t guarantee that he’s 100% done with the Selecao. Maybe he can come back.”
Reacting to the comments, Neymar appeared to shut down any suggestion of a comeback, replying:
“It’s not my dad playing!”
