Newcastle United have confirmed the appointment of Matthias Jaissle as the club’s new head coach following the departure of Eddie Howe
The 38-year-old German joins the Premier League side after leaving Saudi Pro League club Al-Ahli, where he enjoyed considerable success. Despite his achievements, this will be Jaissle’s first managerial role in one of Europe’s top-flight leagues.
Reacting to his appointment, Jaissle described the opportunity as a privilege.

Jaissle’s playing career was cut short by injury when he was just 25, prompting an early move into coaching.
He began his managerial career with Austrian club Liefering before taking charge of Red Bull Salzburg in 2021, where he won back-to-back Austrian league titles and the Austrian Cup.
In 2023, he moved to Al-Ahli and guided the Saudi club to AFC Champions League triumphs in both 2025 and 2026.
