Nigeria’s Super Falcons secured a place in the quarter-finals of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations with a commanding 6-2 victory over Egypt in their final Group C match in Morocco
The defending champions knew a win would guarantee qualification and delivered a dominant attacking performance to overwhelm Egypt, despite conceding twice.
Asisat Oshoala opened the scoring in the 21st minute after converting a penalty awarded following a VAR review for handball. It was the veteran striker’s first goal of the tournament.
Gift Monday, who replaced Oshoala before halftime, made an instant impact by scoring in first-half stoppage time to extend Nigeria’s lead to 2-0.
Egypt reduced the deficit moments later when Nadine Ghazi converted a penalty after Michelle Alozie was penalised for a foul inside the box, sending the teams into the break with Nigeria leading 2-1.
The Super Falcons regained control in the second half as Rinsola Babajide set up Uchenna Kanu, who fired home in the 57th minute to make it 3-1.
Nigeria’s second penalty of the game followed another VAR review after Kanu was fouled in the area. Christy Ucheibe converted from the spot in the 80th minute to increase the lead to 4-1.
Ghazi grabbed her second goal four minutes later to make it 4-2, but Nigeria responded again when captain Rasheedat Ajibade converted a third penalty in stoppage time after yet another VAR decision.
Joy Omewa completed the rout in the ninth minute of added time, sealing an emphatic 6-2 win.
The result saw the 10-time African champions finish second in Group C behind Zambia, who defeated Malawi 2-1, with both teams advancing to the knockout stage.
