A woman who says she was one of Peter Okoye’s wife Lola Omotayo‘s closest friends in secondary school has spoken about the kind of person she remembers Lola to be, describing her as beautiful, neat and genuinely kind.
Her account comes at a time when Lola, Peter Okoye’s wife, has been mentioned in the family’s long-running dispute. The woman said she had known Lola long before her relationship with Peter and believes the public image of her does not tell the full story.
Speaking about their school days on her TikTok account, she said:
“I was Lola’s closest friend in secondary school. There’s nothing anybody is seeing online now to give Lola accolades that can compare to half of what Lola is. And I’m saying it from the bottom of my heart. There are stories I can tell from secondary school days. Even Peter knows he married well.Lola was not just the most beautiful girl in secondary school.
She went on to describe Lola as someone whose character stood out just as much as her appearance.
“When we were out of secondary school, at least we were friends for quite a while. Any room she entered, people turned their heads to look at her. She wasn’t just that; she had good character. There was something about Lola; she was so neat. Not those kind of neat people that, because they are neat, they become irritable, and then they are not pleasant. Not that kind of person”, she said.
The friend also recalled how Lola’s habit of keeping things clean became part of their everyday life in boarding school. According to her, Lola’s friends would regularly gather around her corner, where her mother would send food for them.
“Lola was so neat that we’ll come to her corner in the boarding school. Each time she resumed, we will all come to her corner because her mom would fry two whole big chickens and send them for us to eat because she knew that we all came to her corner and we ate everything with her.
She was so neat that she would be unconsciously holding a broom to sweep while all of us were sitting there for hours on end. We will not even notice because it had become part of how we did things. Lola could do that like three times before it ended”, she stated.
Her story did not end with their secondary school days. She recalled visiting Lola when she later attended Obafemi Awolowo University in Ile-Ife and said she noticed the same habits.
“When Lola came to OAU Ife, I traced her hostel. Lo and behold, there were people gathered around her bunk also because it was just like the same bunk in Mozambique Hall then.
“She was holding a broom, and there were people gathered around talking. She was sweeping…I can’t remember Lola holding somebody inside like you offended her and then she kept it to herself. She’s not this kind of person”, she added
The friend also recalled being present around Lola’s wedding and described a conversation they had shortly before the ceremony.
“I am so glad the truth has caught up with the lies. I was at her wedding. And a day before the wedding, we were sitting with her chatting. And her mind was on and off. And then she was like, her husband was not around”, she noted.
According to her, Peter and Lola had travelled to Ghana at the time, and she said Lola did not appear upset about his absence. She added that she only later learned from Peter that Paul was not part of the wedding.
She concluded with a strong assessment of Peter’s marriage to Lola:
“They had gone to Ghana, and she was not angry about it. In fact, it was until I heard from Peter now that I knew that Paul was not part of the wedding. The best thing that happened to Peter is Lola, being someone who had issues with his siblings.”
The woman’s account is based on her personal memories of Lola from their school years and her time around the family.
